No 16th Sdrd. shoulder parking at orchards...

Photos by Barry Wallace

Apple-pickers at the two orchards, either side of Jane Street, on the 16th Sideroad, are going to find restricted parking on both sides of the road, for about 100 metres east and west of each orchard, during the busy time for apple-picking this fall.

Masterful stone wall destroyed in accident
is now rebuilt nine months later
The scene pictured above shows the aftermath of an accident involving a tow truck and the almost total destruction of a landmark stone wall on the south-west corner of the 15th Sideroad and 7th Concession of King, last December.   The wall has been rebuilt this month and is pictured below.

Some of the detail stone work is featured below in two photographs.

Below is a photo of a keystone near the entrance,
with the name of the property.

Construction closes Hwy. 9 fishing hole...

Photos by Barry Wallace
This is the scene that greets fishermen and fisherwomen at one of their favourite fishing holes on Highway 9, where the north and south Holland Marsh canals begin, east of Schomberg.   It appears the highway and the bridge are both to be widened and the site looks like a moonscape.

Parked in front of King City's Spresso Cafe...

A Jeep?  -  Jeepers!
I think this is a Jeep truck parked on Keele Street, in front of Spresso Cafe, but in this day and age of instant and ultra-customization, one can't always be sure.

Protesters pick hazardous spot for signs
Two signs less than a metre from the edge of the road at the Kinghorn intersection of the King Road and Jane Street present their message in a very hazardous way.  Intersection traffic is very distracted by the messages and their positioning.   The messages do not identify the people who erected the signs but their disdain for clear traffic sightlines serves no one any good.   Short-sighted  do-gooders are misguided here.

Things aren't always what they seem...

 A bicycle or a planter?
Well, it has two wheels, handlebars and looks like a bicycle, but it also six different flat spots for holding flower pots.   Why there are no flowers pots at this time of the year is a bit of a puzzle, but I'm sure it would be rather attractive is there were.  It does have certain fine lines about it and a wee bit of fresh paint would brighten it up.   Charming nevertheless.   Spotted on the Canal Road, just west of Pumphouse Road.

Are its flying days over?
There was time when flights over King City, from this farm, were seen by many.    The plane still looks pretty good, but its hanger looks a bit neglected.

It's been over a year ago...

Daniel Bertini died on July 24 of 2020 in a bicycle accident.   If you drive on Keele Street often you will have no doubt noticed the tribute pictured above on the east side of Keele, north of the 16th Sideroad.   Something caught my eye there   recently and I stopped to take a picture.   It turned out to be a hand-painted rock attached to the bike's left foot pedal.   It reads "To teach is to touch a life forever".   Mr. Bertini was a teacher in fact, as well as a father, husband, brother, son and friend.  Amen.

Kettleby Italian Bakery...

Photos by Barry Wallace
Just so you know...
Most everyone in King Township has come across or has heard of the Kettleby Italian Bakery on Kettleby's Main Street, operated by the Dorio family.   The sign for the bakery hangs over the front steps of the store.   But their is another sign on the left side of the store's facade that not everyone might have seen or heard about.   The sign is pictured in the photo below and informs readers that 161 years ago, the building was Jacob Walton's store and Kettleby's post office.
