In the Company of Witches ~ Auralee Wallace

A cozy mystery .... but much more

Auralee Wallace is the younger of my two daughters and she is a cozy-mystery writer.   In the Company of Witches (Penguin Random House) is her latest book.   It is her ninth book.   Here, I am quoting two other authors who have read Auralee's newest book.   "A fun and compelling mystery....A welcome addition to the magical cozy genre." - New York Times bestselling author JULIET BLACKWELL.   And, "This is the perfect blend of mystery, magic and mayhem." - New York Times bestselling author SOPHIE KELLY.   I will not try to embellish what these two authors have said.   I too have read the book however, and in my opinion, it is head and shoulders above the previous eight books.   More books, and in other genres, are in her future, I'm sure.   Well done, Auralee.

Couldn't find enough pretty trees, so...

Photos by Barry Wallace
After taking the photo above, I had a hard time finding other nice tree shots, so I decided to go for less arboreal subject matter and took the more mundane photos below.

All of the 12-15 Wild Turkeys pictured above, were taking dust baths in an exposed patch of countryside earth as a passed by this spot.   I stopped to get a couple of pictures and they seemed oblivious to me, flapping and flopping about and covering themselves with dusty dirt, for quite some time.

Fall is but part of the cycle...

"As  2012's leaves turn brilliant and let go of their trees, I continue my journey of growth and remember the message written in its branches.  Growth doesn't have to be fast, but it has to be continuous, and it's OK to let go of what there was to make room for what will be."

Northeast of Nobleton...

The early blackbirds fly
guilty from a dawn haul
of fallen fruit.   We too
breakfast on sweetnesses.
Soon plum trees will be bone,
grown delicate with frost's
formalities.   Their black
angles will tear the snow.

The photo on my computer screen of a Cormorant drying its wings, at the Richmond Hill Millpond, appeared on my BarrytheBirder blogsite a day or so ago.   I liked it so much, it has become my screensaver for a while.

No road shall go unpaved...

Photos by Barry Wallace

Lest we forget that no King road should be a dirt road, pavement will prevail.   Latest road to be black-topped is the 7th Concession between the 15th and 16th Sideroads.

This is the new view north from the 15th Sideroad

This view looks south from the 16th Sideroad, where Oak Ridges Trail hikers will walk on more new pavement.

New traffic lights in King City...

Traffic lights at township headquarters
King Township's headquarters on the King Road in King City is about to be served by new traffic lights.   The lights have been installed and will likely be operational within days.   It will slow through traffic somewhat, but the controlled access and egress has been long overdue and will be appreciated by most citizens.

Apple Orchards parking watched over by police

My last blog (see below this one) showed restricted roadside shoulder parking on the north and south sides of the 16th Sideroad, at the apple orchards east and west of Jane Street.   Today, Oct. 2, police cruisers and officers were on hand to observe drivers' compliance.
