Where does Tannery Creek start in Aurora?
P
ictured above is Tannery Creek as it runs north from Tyler Street in Aurora. The view looks north from the spot where Collis Leather was founded in mid-1800s. The creek was named for the leather-making factory built in this spot. the creek splits here, with tributaries coming down from the Oak Ridges Moraine on both sides of Yonge Street. The tributaries run north behind the Aurora Cemetery on the east side of Yonge Street, and north behind the new Delmanor Retirement facility on the the west side of Yonge Street. The health of Tannery Creek suffered for a century before Collis Leather came to end. The affected surrounding areas appears to have a brighter future in the 21st century.
