Royal Bank, Subway, plus ?

An un-manned robotic tamping machine is remotely controlled by a worker at the site of the new Royal Bank building on the south-west corner of the King Road and Banner Lane, west of the Township of King offices, in King City.   The site will also house a Subway Sandwiches restaurant plus an as-yet unidentified third store.

Water ski championships in King Township

The Eastern Canadian Water Ski Championships were held at Summerski, on Keele Street north of Hwy. 9, in King Township, this past weekend.   The event also brought together qualifiers for the Canadian Championships in Calgary, later this month.   Three different styles , in 18 age categories, were displayed over the two days.   In the photos above, skills belie the ages of some competitiors.   Spectators were invited to attend the championships free of charge, at Summerski Park.

16th Sideroad closed at 11th Concession

The 16th Sideroad of King Township, immediately east of the 11th Concession, is closed for culvert replacement.   The stream is small but the site is a deep water-worn gully, which will take a little longer to refurbish.   Traffic is being rerouted to the King Sideroad or the 17th Sideroad while construction takes place.

What's in a name?

The estate properties of King Township sometimes take themselves quite seriously when it comes to names.   On the other hand, some signs take a more relaxed approach.   This one on the 19th Sideroad, in the far north-west reaches of the township, definitely falls into the latter category.

More development activity in King City

The much-anticipated final siding was begun this week on the Doctor's House, a cherished village landmark in King City.   This building oozes charm and atmosphere and is as much a King City centrepiece as Hogan's Inn, the old Crawford Wells General Store, and the old King City Bakery.   Meanwhile below, and across from the Doctor's House, the new skateboard park is starting to show some of the contours that will give the facility is distinctive shape.   The park, beside the arena, is scheduled to open this fall.

Judging by these photos one can forgiven for having some doubt or second thoughts about the rampant development underway in King City.   Only time will tell the true tale about a brighter future for citizens.   Meanwhile, the developers and builders reap their rewards.
