GOING BACK TO THE 1960s

The Flight Tower
King City Airport

Elevation: 930'

The King City Airport and the Toronto Flying Club go back to the late 1960s in this location and was a popular private flying operation for almost 30 years.   It eventually became the home of J.K.Beamish Construction Company for many years.

New King City library nearing completion...

The new King City library is nearing completion and library resources may begin finding their way into the new building in a month or so, but Covid 19 considerations will dictate a time for library patrons to enter the handsome new facility.   Access further information on the library's website.

Jane Street and Highway 9...

Photos by Barry Wallace

If this horse doesn't catch your eye, you'd better see an optometrist.   It certainly made me slow down and pull over at the southwest corner of Jane Street and Highway 9, on the edge of the Holland Marsh.   Even the wildflowers lend a certain something special to the pastoral scene.

Buttonball flowers at Lake Wilcox Park...

Photos by Barry Wallace

This golfball-sized flower is in my BarrytheBirder blog of three days ago and I thought I'd show it here also.  Buttonball is also known as Buttonbush, Button-willow and Honey-bells.   A plain looking bush, but with a fascinating flower blossom.   The bush is about five to six-feet tall.

15th Sideroad latest King paving project

Photos by Barry Wallace
Pictured above and below are two views of King's 15th Sidreoad which has recently been paved between Weston Road and the 8th Concession.   The job is part of an expansive program of road paving that is leaving very few gravel concession roads and sideroads in the township.

The photo above looks south on the 7th Concession from a point north of the 15th Sideroad where the old gravel road now ends and the new pavement takes over.

It seems wherever you go in King Township there is a pond and a fountain gracing the scene.   To me, these country fountains are a recipe for gracefulness and tranquility.

Daylilies

                                                                                                     Photos by Barry Wallace
Included here is a sampling of some of the daylilies that my late wife Linda had planted over the years.   The top three photos were enlarged several years ago and hang on one of the walls in the kitchen, to this day.   The photos below are a selection of a few of the other colours and patterns that graced the daylily bed for decades.

King City Dog Park surrounded by nature...

                                                                                                          Photos by Barry Wallace
I have no idea how well the King City Dog Park, at the end of Hogan Court, is utilized, but its surroundings are bucolically situated and covered in greenery.   These photos do not really capture the lush verdancy to be found here.

                                ... greenery to spare!

Environment-friendly utility structures...

Collard Drive ~ King City
I'm not sure which utilities service these large compartments support, but the attempt to make them blend in with their surroundings has been very well executed.   Nicely done, folks.

Tribute to the Orrs...

Here is a tribute plaque I had not noticed until a few days ago.  It is in memory of Gord and Mary Orr, 55-year residents of King City and outstanding contributors to the village in so many ways, including the gift of land to the Memorial Park, in the centre of the village.   It is adjacent to the tennis courts.

Kettle lake in King City?

Here's a sign in the west side of the village, I've only just noticed - the name of which puzzles me a bit.   I'm not aware of a 'kettle' lake anywhere within King City's boundaries.   There are some elsewhere in the township but not in King City village, methinks.

It rained throughout this garden visit and the photographer (me) got quite wet, but everything
growing here relished the rain, I 'm sure.
