Things still chilly in the Marsh...

This is the third time in the last few weeks that I have shown pictures of vegetable seedlings in the Holland Marsh being covered with protective plastic sheeting. All the workers can be seen dressed warmly.   An upward change in temperature would make many things want to sprout in the Marsh and elsewhere.

Oak Ridges Trail...

Ed Miller Side Trail ~ north of King City

Strong winds over the past several months have taken a large toll on many trees along this trail, but but the trail keepers have done an excellent job of keeping the trail open.   While I was taking the photo below, low reoccurring cracking sounds were coming from the split in the tree, which went well below the forest floor.   It seemed inevitability was speaking.

King City to change forever...

Photos by Barry Wallace
Construction juggernaut about to change
1/4 of the entire village of King City
The snow is gone, the ground cover is gone, and now the serious change is about to take place on about 1/4 of all of King City's  remaining undeveloped land.   Welcome to the future.   The pictures here show two dozen pieces of earth displacement behemoths stationed on the south side of the 15th sideroad, between Keele and Dufferin Streets.

Spotted In Kettleby...

47-year-old Ford Maverick in Kettleby
I spotted this great-looking 1974 Ford Maverick on the Kettleby Road last Sunday and just had to get a picture of the 'Baby Blue' beauty.   The car originated in the milder climes of the United States and that paint is original!   Just about everything inside and outside the car is original.   The couple riding in this looker were really proud of it.   Who wouldn't be?

Here's an eye-catcher for you...

    Photos by Barry Wallace

This beauty is a 2-year-old Cano Corso that I have seen being walked around King City several times lately.
I caught up with him and his master and got a couple of very neat photos of this Italian canine.   He has a grey-brindle or maybe a blue-brindle coat and his ears have been cropped.
I didn't get his name but he was friendly and very attentive to his owner.   This dog is a real eye-catcher.

Meet Charlie
I met Charlie the charmer in his colourful winter gear, on a King City Street last week.   He was accompanying two ladies and I'm not sure if he was leading them or they were leading him.   Charlie's owner sadly lost her parents, three months apart, last year.   Now Charlie, the new addition to the family, is trying his best to bring good feelings to his bereaved owner.  What a sweetie, eh?

Beautiful Sunday welcomed...

Keele Street, north of King City had three dozen automobiles lining both sides of the road this past Sunday morning, as the sun shone, there was no wind, and the temperature was bearable.   There were another dozen cares at the other end of this trail section on Dufferin Street.   Maybe part of the crowd was an organized hike.   I guessed the number of adults and children has to add up to between 150 and 190 nature lovers.  Goodbye winter...come on spring!

Trees cut down at Kettlbey Green Golf Course...

Photos by Barry Wallace
Anyone driving up Jane Street, north of Hwy. 9, will notice that many, many trees on the east side of Jane Street and south of the South Holland Marsh Canal have been removed from the north-east corner of the Kettle Creek Golf Club.   Because the trees were cut down with snow on the ground, the remaining stumps are as high as the snow was deep.   I assume the remaining stumps will be removed at  ground level, if the intention is for golfers to continue to play through this part of the course.   No doubt, the opening up of the tree concentration here will be great news for regular golfers.   The bottom photo here was taken last year ago.
