Former church to become Italian Bakery?

I was told by a normally reliable source, during yesterday's King City Festival, that the old deconsecrated Baptist church on the south-west corner of King Road and Fisher Street, and which served for the past many years as a real estate office, is to become an Italian bakery and coffee shop.   Cappuccino, yes!   Ahhh, the further greening of King is under way.   Now, if we could just find alternate routes for the huge trucks that rumble through the village.

June in the Marsh

The Holland Marsh in upper King Township is in its annual transition from black to green, as the dark muck soil gives way to emerging green plants.   June is the month when black and green tones contrast vividly in the marsh.   The picture, at every turn, boasts of the bounty to come.

Monster machines and workers on their hands and knees are essential to what will be, hopefully, the perfect production of produce on which the Holland Marsh has built an international reputation.

Great gardening weather

Gardening has been a joy this spring, although some might say we have had too much rain.   Nevertheless there has been a remarkable combination of gardening karma going on and gardens in early June are looking like July gardens.   Foliage in particular has been fast and abundant and a joy to behold.   There's no problem keeping King green this year, so far.

St. Alban's to close

St. Alban's Anglican Church, on Highway 27, north of the King Road, in Nobleton, is going to close its doors.   Earlier this year, the 150-year-old church was given until the end of May to reverse declining membership.   The attractive old church and adjacent cemetery have been favourite landmarks in the village for most residents, over the years.   I heard of the closing while attending the King City United Church Fish Dinner this past Thursday evening.   It was the topic of discussion for many old-timers at the dinner.

From junk cars to new homes

A business that survived for several decades (Nobleton Truck Wreckers) near the middle of Nobleton, has moved to Barrie, Ontario.   The site has been completely cleared and a sign on the King Road frontage says that a proposal to build 144 housing units has been submitted to the Township of King.
