The perfect sanctuary ~ whatever the season

Some of the huge trees in the cemetery seems to rival the 129-year

longevity of the burial ground itself.

Above, form and function combine to provide rest and reflection.

The monument at right makes me think how charming it was that a lady named Daisy married a fellow named Sparrow and she would carry the name of a flower and a bird (Daisy Sparrow) for all of her married life.

Monuments of today comes in shapes and sizes that do not necessarily resemble the traditional monuments of years and centuries gone by.

Autumn colours 

can often soften

the sombreness 

and severity 

that gravestones, 

by their nature 

and appearance, 

inherently 

exude.

Monarchs missing...

Where are the Monarch Butterflies?

I was sitting on the back deck recently, enjoying some Brie cheese on a slice of tasty artisan bread which I purchased at the King City Farmers Market and was sipping from a glass of chilled Jackson-Triggs  Sauvignon Blanc, which was pleasantly tasty and tangy, when a Monarch Butterfly settled upon several dahlia flowers in the the garden.   I had only seen one Monarch in the backyard so far this summer and decided to take a picture of this one.   By the time I got my camera, the monarch had moved on.   I waited for a few minutes but it didn't return.   I decided then that I would rerun a photo of three fritillary butterflies that my sister Denise had taken a year of so ago on the shores of James Bay in Quebec.   It is one of my favourite butterfly pictures and I've always been proud of Denise for this wonderful photo.   I hope you enjoy it also.

Kettleby roundabout completed

The new Lloydtown/Aurora Road Roundabout has been functional for approximately six weeks and almost everyone is handling the situation well.   A few drivers show some hesitancy, but better safe than sorry is a good idea it seems.

THE GAMBIT Barber Shop opens in King City

Barbers Daniel (left) and Sal (right) are partners in the new barber shop in King City called THE GAMBIT.   They are located a few doors south of Hogan's Inn, on the west side of Keele Street, just south of the King Road.   They were serving up free barbecue and refreshments on Friday afternoon to passersby and customers, which was to be followed in the evening with an official ribbon cutting by the the mayor and more refreshments.   If the number of barber chairs in the shop (there are six!) is any indication, there should be no waiting whatsoever for a haircut.
