Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve...

Photos by Barry Wallace
Many improvements have been made to the Cawthra Mulock Nature Reserve this past year.   The reserve is located on the west side of Bathurst Street, just north of the Miller Sideroad/Green Lane West, on the King Township/Newmarket border. The main pond has expanded greatly now that the beaver dam has been restored.   The dam is over 3 metres high at its central point (see photo below)

As of December 1st, there was still a Kingfisher inhabiting the pond above, and many people and children were handfeeding Chickadees and Red-breasted Nuthatches.  Signage, parking, trail maintenance, benches, are all upgraded.

Late November fishing in the Holland Marsh...

I circumnavigated the Holland Marsh last Friday, taking in parts of King Township and West Gwillimbury and counted almost one hundred anglers, both men and women, fishing in the canals.   You have to be hardy and keen to enjoy this sport in late November.
