Still very chilly in the Marsh...

This is third time in the last few weeks that I have shown pictures of vegetable seedlings in the Holland Marsh being covered with protective plastic covering.   All the workers in this photo can be seen to be dressed warmly.   An upward change in temperature would make many things want to sprout in the Marsh and elsewhere.

Highway 9 and Weston Road...

There must be a hundred thousand pieces of firewood at this firewood centre, on Hwy. 9 just west of of Weston Road.   Or maybe there's half a million.   Who knows?   These photos barely show a quarter of it.

Schomberg's 'treasured' Dufferin Marsh...

At the centre of the village is a refuge

Already the Dufferin Marsh is playing host to a female Goose (below) sitting on a nest atop a muskrat or beaver den, while her mate (above) patrols their nearby section of the marsh.

Three bird feeders are part of the reserves main display (above) at the entrance of the marsh, on Dr. Kay Drive.   During my brief visit, two Downy Woodpeckers (right) were doing their best to empty the feeders and were not distracted by me at all.   A more recent pond display panel (below) extolls the charms of the marsh for resident Eastern Painted Turtles and 'Snappers'.
