Old plough makes a heritage statement

This structure was created a few years ago by the gentleman who owns the property on which it stands, on Keele Street in the Holland Marsh. It's large, creatively designed and well made. The owner, whose name is Tony, says it will be illuminated eventually. Tony and I had a long chat and I have a made a new friend. It's a Holland Marsh landmark that's hard to miss.

Lloydtown Pioneer Cemetery ~ back to 1834

Born before the American Revolution

- interred in Lloydtown

The King Township hamlet of Lloydtown has a pioneer cemetery that dates back to the early 1830s and was founded by Lloydtown resident and renown revolutionary Jesse Lloyd. A number of people buried there were pioneers or settlers from the British Isles and their graves are evidence that these hardy souls were born before, during or shortly after the American Revolution (1775-1783). One such individual, buried at Lloydtown, was James Pinkerton who was born 258 years ago, died at age 96 and was interred in the pioneer cemetery in 1858. A stroll through this cemetery is indeed like stepping back in time and for some, the verdant setting is a soulful experience. The Lloydtown Cemetery is listed as KNG-017 in the Directory of Cemeteries in the Regional Municipality of York published by the Toronto Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society.
