King City United Church traces its beginnings back to a mid-19th century Methodist Episcopal congregation in 1865 when the local area was known as Springhill.
Early records show the congregation started about 1865, with local resident George Garrow leading Sunday school classes inside a local wheelwright's shop.
Springhill got its name because of the high water table and many springs in the area.
