Augustinian Order 75 years at Marylake

In celebration of the Augustinian Order's 75th Anniversary at Marylake and Canada's 150th birthday, the Marylake Concert Series is presenting a Magnificat Concert on Saturday, June 3 at 7 p.m.   Featured artists include the Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts Orchestra Ensemble, Coro San Marco and Alesandra Trimmeliti.  Tickets are $15 and are available at Marylake.

The organ at Marylake is a unique and famed melding of two separate Aeolian-Skinner "Duo-Art" organs, both built in the same factory, in the same year.   One organ came from the Seagram Estate and the other from the Eaton Estate.

Marylake's several hundred acres is a naturalist's treasure and fortuitously, the Oak Ridges Trail makes its way along a beautiful route across Marylake's expanse.

SHELBY COBRA in SCHOMBERG

I have no idea how old this Shelby Cobra is and only know that this is an iconic car created by Carroll Shelby, who also developed the Ford Mustang.   I show it here for those who are great admirers of the car.   It's a head-turner and it goes like a bat-out-of-hell!

Old King City bakery site...what next?

Additional clearing of the site in the middle of King City, on which the old, onetime, King City Bakery stands, continues.   The building now stands starkly and its weary blemishes are even more noticeable.   The photo immediately below shows the new view southward, from Hoop Street, across the King Road and down Doctors Lane. 

The folks at the Township of King tell me no development proposal has been made for all the land surrounding the old bakery, and the bakery itself.   But something will be proposed, methinks, and sooner rather than later.

Now on at King Heritage & Cultural Centre...

WEDGEWOOD COLLECTION
DONATED TO KING MUSEUM

The King Heritage and Cultural Centre has been given one of Canada's most extensive collections of Wedgwood commemorative china.   The collection is a gift from the estate of Keith McLeod, a former professor at the University of Toronto.   The collection includes 400 pieces of china and many of the pieces are now on display until the end of June of this year.   Below is a sampling of a few of the pieces, in the special introductory exhibit at the King Heritage & Cultural Centre for the next two months.   The exhibit may be viewed Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The greeness of spring at Marylake

'How glorious this weather was at the beginning of May!   One sweetly warm day following the other, and in each a new and pleasurable change to observe in the landscape.   And how verdant everything seemed, as though the very sap were singing - as the season had progressed from winter to summer on one heady leap'.
