My nephew Joey Georgekish in Monument Valley, United States of America...

Photos by Joey Georgekish

Joey Georgekish

My nephew Joseph Georgekish lives and works in Ottawa.   He is the son of my sister Denise.   He took these photos in Monument Valley, a red sandstone region of the Arizona/Utah border and is known for its towering sandstone buttes in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.   Joey is a half-Cree native resident of Canada and was born in Wemindji, Quebec.   His late father was my brother-in-law Frederick Georgekish.

65-year-old Christmas stocking still in use...

Gift to mark the birth of a new baby

The Christmas stocking in this photo is 65 years old.   It was given to my friend Pat by a family relative in 1958 to commemorate the imminent birth of Pat's first child.   It has been in continuous use right up to Dec. 24th of this year and will hopefully continue to be used  for many more Christmas gifts in the years, (maybe decades), ahead.

Singing Gilbert & Sullivan 60 years ago...

Photo forwarded  by Doreen Hiltz

This Charming photo, taken of a Christmas tree in Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia, was taken by a favourite one-time high school teacher of mine, Doreen Hiltz.   The photo captures the full moon rising up and positioning itself at the peak of the tree.   Doreen was a music teacher at Aurora District High School back around 1960, when she produced a production of the Gilbert & Sullivan musical "HMS.Pinafore".   The entire school choir, of which I was one, participated in the musical and I played the role of Captain Corcoran. It was one of my favourite moments at old Aurora High.   My dear friend, the late Donald "Doc" Gordon, played the admiral of the Pinafore's fleet. After just over 60 years, I discovered that Doreen lived nearby, retired from a long-time career on the faculty of nearby St. Andrew's College in Aurora.
