Our first White-throated Sparrow of the spring arrived on Monday, May 2nd. We normally anticipate seeing them sometime during the last two weeks of April. The new arrival pictured here is probably a male. He was having to compete for seeds beneath the feeders with approximately 25 male and female cowbirds; but compete he did. He may decide to stay in this area for the summer or he could continue to migrate north as far at Hudson's Bay, on either the Ontario side or the Quebec side. The other spring bird we have expected before now is the White-crowned Sparrow. It usually arrives earlier than the White-throated by two or three weeks, but so far not a one! Maybe tomorrow.
