A big Kawartha Lakes '7-footer'
Co-owner of the Kawartha Voyager and wife of the Voyager captain Mark is Robin, who kept 48 passengers plus the crew well fed with three meals and three snacks each and every day.
Trumpeter Swans were a regular feature of the boat trip Pat and I were on. Over the course of five days, we saw approximately 60 to 70 of the big white birds. Cormorants (see picture below) were also a regular feature along the Kawartha lakes and rivers
Many Osprey nests, like the one pictured above and below, are to to be found throughout the Kawartha Lakes countryside. It was to late in the season for Pat and I to see either Ospreys or Bald Eagles, which also nest in this area.
The Ranney Gorge, near Campbellford on the Trent River, is crossed by the Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge: 300 feet long and 30 feet above the river.
The wire mesh on the south side of the Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge many dozens of padlocks attached to it by visitors to the site. Whether they are significant mementos or wishful good-luck charms or messages to a loved-one, is anybody's guess, I suppose.
