Charming recollections...

Carol Gellatly Field  has just published a charming personal history of her life in King Township since the 1940s.   It will be a delightful read for anyone from  who has lived in the township for any length of time.   The 36-page journal is available for $5.00 at King City Pharmacy.   It spans  the years from a woodstove in the kitchen to the 'Big Pipe'.

At The Roost Cafe in King City...

Photos by Barry Wallace
Pulchritudinous Plates
Artistic embellishment has graced the walls of the Roost Cafe in King City.    Three charming presentations are to be noticed by cafe-goers as they sip their 'cafe au lait'.  The attractive arrangements are to be found in three different spots on The Roost's walls.   Vous serez ravis.

Schomberg's Hawk Owl

Photos by BarrytheBirder

The Hawk-Owl pictured above spent most of the winter at the Dufferin Marsh in Schomberg earlier this year and was photographed by hundreds of birdwatchers and other onlookers.   Many
of the photographs have been collected in a framed photo collection that now hangs in the Trisan Centre

Another major King City project...

Photos by Barry Wallace
Significant work is underway on the south side of the King Road, between Keele Street and John Street, in King City.   King Councilor Debbie Schaeffer tells me the project is a rather elaborate undertaking between King and York Region to connect the core area of the village  to the dog park that was constructed in the area, but is currently accessible at the end of Hogan Court, which one can only reach from a southerly route in the village.   Dog parks are usually very popular, if they are easily accessible.

Once was the Schomberg United Church...

Photos by Barry Wallace

Pictured above is the inspiring elegant cross above the Romanian Orthodox Parish Church on Church street in Schomberg.  The church was once the Schomberg United Church. It was sold in 2016 and became the 'Saint Prophet Elias' Church.

Sight seldom seen anymore
Here's an old King Township barn being partially restored north of Snowball.   One gets used to seeing old barns like this being torn down and replaced with brand new horse barns.

Old Bathurst Street is now paved...

Photos by Barry Wallace
Old Bathurst Street, between King's 19th Sideroad and the 'modern' Bathurst Street is one of the many rural roads that have been paved, or re-paved, this year in the township.   The view in this picture does not do justice to the steep incline of old Bathurst Street at this point.   Regular users will have some challenges this winter when the road is icy or snowy, but will adjust, no doubt.  It will be the rare, unknowing driver who may be in for a wintery surprise.   The photo below shows some of the rolling forest on old Bathurst Street, up on the 'King Ridge'.

Dog Tales Rescue ~ on the 19th Sideroad...

PIG TAILS at DOG TALES

It's not all about dogs and horses at Dog Tales

There are five big pigs at Dog Tales Rescue and they all wanted their pictures taken when I dropped by last Sunday.  They were friendly and cooperative about posing for the camera even though each one wanted to be in front.

Also seen from the 19th Sideroad of King is the newest facility, under construction on the Dog Tales Rescue property.   It is a huge 'state-of-the-art' animal hospital on three floors, which will open next year.
