Young Killdeer at Seneca College King

The young Killdeer chick, seen above, was one of two youngsters that a mother Killdeer was trying to protect, beside a storm-water retention pond at the King campus of Seneca College recently.   The two tiny Killdeers were about the size of sparrows and could run but not fly.   Adorable comes to mind.

Lovely lilies south of Kinghorn...

 Photos by Barry Wallace
do not know if these lilies are Asiatic or Orienpets, or maybe LA hybrids, but they sure are pretty.   They can be found at the entrance to the Kingbridge Centre, on the west side of Jane Street, south of Kinghorn and the King Road.

Shouldn't groundhogs be in farmers' fields?

How far does a
'gopher go for'
white clover flowers to eat?

Not far, if it lives under
the garden shed in our backyard.

How hot was it on Saturday?

in the shade!

I have no idea if a temperature record was set in King City last Saturday, but it was mighty warm on the deck in our backyard.  Mercifully, the white wine was cold.

King's first public off-leash dog park...

Photos by Barry Wallace
OPENING SOON in KING CITY
King's Township's first municipal off-leash dog park will open soon in King City, on land to the southwest of the King Road and Keele Street, and west of the GOTrain railway line.  There is access to the dog park by the footpath at the north end of Hogan Court.   There is also a north/south walking trail and storm-water retention pond,  close by between Hogan Court and the railway line.   The divided and fenced dog park seems to be two parks in one.   I'm not sure but the separated yet connected parks are entered by a main gate and then two other gates.   Perhaps the arrangement is to accommodate dogs that don't get along together and can be separated, or perhaps one side will be used until the grass needs refurbishment  for a short period, at which time the other side will be opened and used.  However, the off-leash dog park(s) is not ready to use until the grass seed has taken hold.  I expect there will be announcement of the opening in the near future.

Laskay Hall Raspberry Social returns...

King City's 'man-about-town' Ed Millar (right) knows his way around a raspberry social.  Here he is seen with raspberry pie, fresh raspberries and vanilla ice cream, helping himself to lemonade.

King Township mayor, and ladies man, Steve Pellegrini is seen with a friend escorting him to a picnic table to enjoy the raspberry feast.

Judy Leeming of Aurora, and sister Mary, visiting from the US., come from the Scott family, a large and venerable King Township family.

Mary Scott (right, above) is a King Township 90+ gal who has seen her share of raspberry socials over many years.   She is seen here enjoying another one with her cousin, Linda Wallace, of King City.

Raspberries are good but blowing bubbles is really neat.

Many thanks to whoever ordered the perfect weather.

Northern Catalpa Tree in King City...

                                                                                         Photos by Barry Wallace
The Northern Catalpa Tree, in full bloom, need not take a back seat to any other tree, when it comes to grand imagery.  This one is to be found on Banner Lane, just south and around a corner from The King Road, behind the recently vacated, former King Township offices.   The maximum height for Catalpas is about 60 feet and this one is just about there.   What a beauty.

King City Starbucks begins construction

 Photos by Barry Wallace
Construction of the new Starbucks in King City, at the south-west corner of the King Road and Spring Hill Drive (diagonally opposite to The King's Ridge Marketplace) is underway, as seen in these recent photos.   I haven't heard of an official opening date later this year.   I'm sure there is a lot of anticipation out there, however.

Corvettes cruisin' in King City...

Photos by Barry Wallace
A week ago we'd finished dinner and I told my wife I was going to take a quick spin around the village and see if I could get a picture for this blog.  Within two minutes I spotted these two colourful Corvettes (in tandem), both with personalized licence plates, on the King Road heading toward Keele Street.   They turned south on Keele and I thought, what the heck, they might stop somewhere nearby and I could grab a couple of pictures.  Sure enough, they both pulled into the Tim Horton's on Keele Street at the Kirby Sideroad.  The two male drivers were buddies and had been looking at real estate in King City.  They obliged me with photographing their toys and commented that the red one was a 2014 and the yellow one a 2017.  Thanks guys.   I particularly liked the yellow 'vette's' abbreviated licence plate wording for 'EARNED IT ALL'.
