Tallest Christmas tree in King?

On Hwy. 27 between Nobleton and Schomberg
This incredibly tall Christmas tree with the unbelievably straight trunk is to be found on the west side of Hwy. 27 at the Brookdale Treeland Nurseries.   In the photo below, steps can be seen going up the side of the tree trunk and two green communications antennae can be see in the branches at the top of the tree.   Some one has gone to a lot of trouble to show there is more here than meets the eye.   Well done BTN...very well done!

Holland Marsh schoolbus has no roof!

Photos by Barry Wallace
I turned a corner in the lower Holland Marsh recently and came across this school bus with no roof.   I immediately thought this bus had become some sort of special educational or tourist bus, but it didn't seem to be safely equipped.   Maybe it's going to be reconstructed into a motorhome, I thought.   God forbid teenagers end up hanging over the sides of this contraption.   We shall see what we shall see.

Dec. 21, 10 a.m., in the Holland Marsh

Just one hour 'til the official start of winter...

and just 4 days 'til the start of Christmas...

and the indefatigable fishermen and fisherwomen

continue to wet their lines.

Flood warning system lights...

Rarely seen flashing
There are two sets  of these flashing lights in the Holland Marsh.   They are both near the south canal: one quite near the the Hwy. 400 overpass of the canal and the other further east toward Jane Street.   I've never seen the south canal so full of water that it overflows its banks here, but history says otherwise.

Cold critter in King...

Opposums in King Township are in the upper extremities of their North American range.   They do not hibernate but will stay holed up in dens in very extreme weather.  Nevertheless they are are often victims of severe frostbite, especially upon their ears and tails.

Marylake's driveway trees are past their prime...

Photos by Barry Wallace

The massive old fir trees that that line both sides of the roadway into Marylake, just north of King City, continue to come to the end of their days, as seen in these photographs.  The potential hazard of wind-blown branches and entire rotten trees being blown down, possibly on to vehicles, keeps increasing.
