To colour your spirits...

Here's an image to turn you head as you go down Keele Street South in King City.   It's a new hanging street poster designed to lift your spirits in the village this spring.   Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be enough to put up on Keele Street North, or all of King Street.   Maybe it's just a supply hold-up.

Spring maple keys in backyard...

Spring colours of backyard maple key
mimic autumn's leaf colours
The Canadian Encyclopedia says the fruits (known as samaras or maple keys) are produced in winged pairs (rarely in threes).  Each encloses a seed and is dispersed by wind.  The angle between the wings of a maple key varies with different species.

ART or vandalism ?
The question has been asked for thousands of years and the answer is as elusive today as centuries ago.   Being in my 80th year, I'm not as 'au courant' with the meaning of some art and graffiti as I might be.   I do know it's usually colourful and eye-catching.   Attractive?   That's another yes-no question.

ROLLS ROYCE Stealth
Here's an automobile I never expected to see on Keele Street, in downtown King City.   It's a Rolls Royce Stealth.  I'm not a car guy, but I think if you've got  $250,000 lying around dude, you're in the ballpark.   Rolls Royce car...Stealth image.  Who knew?

Old King Airport tower disappears...

Photos by Barry Wallace

Three companies take over big site
at Hwy. 400 and King-Vaughan Townline

The Beamish Construction presence, southwest of King City has disappeared.
The old King City Airport tower that had the Beamish name on for many years has also vanished.   Three new enterprises have appeared to taken over the large properties.

They include Kings
Valley Paving Inc., Royal Stone Group and Strad Aggregates, plus other affiliated enterprises. Many trucks, large and small, plus construction and industrial vehicles are crawling over the sites.

The photos below show how much activity is taking
place on the site and the two photos at bottom illustrate just how impactful the vehicle activity will likely have on local roads.

These two bottom photos, may foreshadow as omens, situations that will face King motorists, particularly locals and commuters, down the road (no pun intended).

Miniature Brahmas on King Farm...

Photos by Barry Wallace
I've never come across a miniature Brahma before, but apparently they are an increasingly popular small cattle breed and in fact can be found in the west side of King Township.  They are small and seem friendly and peaceful.   And they are very attractive.   They range in height from 42" to 48" high at the hip.

Herds of larger grazing animals have had donkeys (right) roaming about with them as early warning and protective measures, and the Brahmas here seem to be no exception.   I found them all to be very friendly and appreciative of a scratch behind the ears.

My maternal grandfather, Sydney Thomas, had a mower just like the one above, back in the 1950s, in Innisfil Township, south of Barrie.   I lived on his farm for one year and was keen to learn how to drive a pair of horses dragging everything behind them, including a mower, like the one above.   The only thing I didn't get to drive was the mower.   It was too hazardous for a 13-year old, I suppose....or for me, at least.
