My daughter's next book...

After having witnessed my second daughter Auralee Wallace-Parekh's book-writing career blossom over the past several years, I have decided to write a bit about her, mainly so that I can bask in her reflected success.   The book pictured at top is her latest effort for Penguin Books and is coming out August 19th of this year.   It is entitled The Late-Night Witches

Her publisher describes it as An enchanting warm and funny novel about family, love lost and found, discovering who you are, and how difficult it is to stay a vampire from the beloved national bestselling author of the TikTok
sensation In the Company of Witches.   Moreover, In the Company of Witches (with new bonus material) is being re-released July 8th of this year.   The series is getting close to a hundred thousand books shipped!

Auralee has authored over a dozen cozy-mystery novels which have been published and read world-wide by keen readers of the genre.

Well done, my dear.

At the Ed Mirvish Theatre...

Pat and I joined 18 of our neighbors at Delmanor Retirement Residence in Aurora on a bus trip to the Ed Mirvish Theatre in downtown Toronto, to take in the Feb. 19 tribute performance of JUST FOR ONE DAY - THE LIVE AID MUSICAL.

The huge historic theatre seemed to be a full-house and theatre-goers were tremendously appreciative of the show.   The 2 1/2 hour performance featured renditions of classic pop-rock numbers prior to 1985.

Live Aid raised $140,000,000 at the time, 40 years ago, for famine relief in Ethiopia.   It was broadcast to 150 countries, and watched by an estimated 1.5 billion people. Its efforts continue to this day to alleviate hunger and suffering in the world's southern hemisphere.

The last selection of the evening was a Paul McCartney hit song, which was coincidental, in that a few nights before, on TV, the momentous final song on the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Show featured a stand-out live performance by the 82-year-old Paul McCartney himself.

Mayor's Celebration of Youth Arts in Aurora...

Photos by Barry Wallace

The photographs pictured above and below are part of the current Mayor's Celebration of Youth Arts (MCOYA) at the Aurora Cultural Centre and Aurora Town Square on Yonge Street.   The photos here feature particular works of Grade 12 student Thandia Lord and they are impressive papier-mache mask creations.  Her works are among those of some fifty area graduates whose works are on display until April 20.   Several events are planned for the exhibition including a demonstration by Thandia Lord on mask-making.

Valentine's Day at Delmanor Retirement Residence...

Valentine's Day at Delmanor Retirement Residence was celebrated by residents by at an afternoon reception that featured 'Creamy Bailey's and vodka martinis'.   Never having tried one before I sampled the drink.   I was shocked at the first sip, but each sip thereafter got much better.   Some of my fellow residents tried to steal a taste of my martini but I repelled them.   I only had one, but became an instant fan.   My Delmanor lady friend Pat also had one of these drinks, which as a bonus had chocolate syrup drizzle lining the martini glasses before the Baileys and vodka was added.   All and all, a rather pleasant Valentine's Day hour spent in the Delmanor Pub.

More Delmanor door art...

                                                                    Photos by Barry Wallace
In blog two days ago, I showed a photo of a piece of door hanging art by a Delmanor Retirement Residence tenant who had quilted a magnificent and colourful elephant.   I was inspired to select other similar pieces in the halls of Delmanor for display also.   I hope you enjoy them.
