Fisher seen in King Township...

Spotted near Happy Valley Forest
King's itinerant naturalist Susan Beharriell has told me she spotted a Fisher in her woods on the 15th Sideroad, about 650 metres southwest of the Happy Valley Forest on the Oak Ridges Moraine.   Fishers are partial to mature hardwood forests and the Happy Valley Forest at 1,560 acres of upland deciduous forest (maples and beech) is an ideal spot for the attractive creature.   I've never seen one in King Township or anywhere else, for that matter.   I think they are few and far between in this neck of the woods, but there are some folks out there who have seen some.   Great sighting Susan of a critter who works hard at not being seen.

  1. That is quite an amazing sighting and so close to civilization. Happy Valley is pretty big and obviously big enough for Fishers to make it their home.

  2. I saw one years ago , it was chasing a snowshoe rabbit though the bush. Very impressive looking animal - surprised how big they are.
