Mary Scott ... a.k.a. 'Laskay Lou'

Pictured above is Mary Scott (right) who is to become 103 years old in May of this year.  Mary was a longtime resident of King Township and now resides in Delmanor Retirement Residence in Richmond Hill.   Mary is featured briefly in Ann Love's and Sharon Bentley's new King Township history book as 'Laskay Lou'.  See my blog on that book's launch back on April 24.   Mary's mention in that book reads as follows...

"Laskay Hall, originally a temperance hall and later home to the Laskay Women's Institute, had been lovingly restored in situ by residents of Kinghorn and Laskay.  Mary Scott, after a distinguished teaching career, researched its history in preparation for the refurbishment.   She wrote and staged a play about the old days, with revenue going towards the restoration.  Scott's play, 'The Emporium 1879', has a character called Laskay Lou, a name adopted by the village acting troupe, The Laskay Lou Players.   Mary Scott, nicknamed Laskay Lou herself, wrote eight more plays, all performed at the restored Hall".

Also seen in the photo above, on the left, is my partner Pat Cromie, a longtime friend of Mary Scott and a former resident herself at Delmanor in Richmond Hill.  Pat and I now both live at Delmanor in Aurora.
