New book - The History of King Township

Photo - History of King Township

Pictured above (Figure 154) on the 2nd last page of the newly published book History of King Township is a photo of 'Grandma Cairns', my late wife Linda (Cairns) Wallace's grandmother.   The photo was taken in Eversley, King Township, about 1920.   The new history book was just launched and is the creation Ann Love and Sharon Bentley.

Below is a photo of the same Grandma Cairns from my family history 'IN SEARCH OF A BETTER LIFE'.   In this photo Grandma Cairns is 80 years old.

Catherine Elizabeth (Shanks) Cairns was a widow at 49, with 11 children between the ages of 5 and 26.   She marshalled the efforts of her children and carried on working the family farm just north of Eversley on Dufferin Street.  She provided for her family until they were all adults, after which they returned the favour, by taking turns hosting her in their homes for the last 25 years of her life, an arrangement she and her children thoroughly enjoyed. Catherine Cairns passed away in 1957, at the age of 90.

Ann Love and Sharon Bentley's 474-page book The History of  King Township is , in my opinion: magnificent. See my blog of April 25 regarding the bool's launch.   It may be purchased at King Museum and Cultural Centre in Kinghorn, on The King Sideroad, just east of Jane Street.

  1. Lovely - what a joy to see that smile. I was ten when she died. I enjoyed as a child her humour and her happiness despite the struggles.
