The plaque above, on the north-east corner of Weston Road Road and the 16th Sideroad in King Township, commemorates the the historic Toronto Carrying Place. The photos below show a nearby, private property, modern-day trail on the Oak Ridges Moraine which some locals believe is a remnant of the original Carrying Place Trail (also known as the Le Passage de Taronto).
The Laskay Emporium, general store and post office built by Joseph Baldwin in 1845, served customers well into the 20 century. The historic structure is now 180 years old.

New steeple becoming new Yonge Street landmark
The Aurora United Church rebuilding is nearing completion, hopefully in early 2026. Meanwhile, long after the 2014 fire that destroyed Aurora United Church, the church community gathered at Aurora Cemetery for a reinternment service of many early members of the local Methodist community on Sunday, August 24. See this week's edition of the Auroran newspaper for a detailed story by editor Brock Weir of the reinternment service.

I don't see many stars in the night sky, being so close to the city of Toronto, but I took the picture above at 9.30 p.m. last night with my 35 mm. Nikon and my small telephoto lens. I've enlarged it considerably here, on the computer, and this is the result. It looks like a planet, but who knows?
A friend at Delmanor Retirement Residence in Aurora, where I live, guesses it is Mars, which is a mere 330 million kms. from Earth! I know nothing about our solar system, but I guess I can suppose this image may be that of Mars.
Meanwhile, it's back to taking photos of birds and local landscapes.
