Denuding King City once more...

Photos by Barry Wallace
It's been more than 50 years since King City was described as 'denuded' by the citizenry of the village as they were held hostage to the widening of Keele Street and the King Road, from two lanes of pavement to four lanes and the end of the village as residents of the day knew it.   Now its the entire northeast quadrant of King City that is about to disappear beneath the scorching breath of the development dragon.   It is a fait accompli, so nothing has changed half a century later.   The views below show the amazing expanse of the lands already cleared and this is only a small portion of the site approvals.   John Belknap must be turning over in his grave!

  1. I remember when the maple trees were quickly cut down for the road expansion . If I recall ,the crusty old Gordon Sinclair did an editorial in the Toronto Star (maybe it was on CFRB radio) bemoaning the destruction of a small town. My Dad was born in King and lived there for 90 years - from horse and buggy and coal fired steam engines to what you see today.
Barry have you thought of getting a camera equipped drone ? Although I imagine there's lots red tape and restrictions .
The photos taken - is that between Dew St. and Dufferin?
