Don Valley Parkway Deer...

Photos by Barry Wallace

Pat and I visited friends of hers who live on the Don Valley Parkway in mid-town Toronto on January 28 and I took these photos from her friend's dining room window.   Two White-tailed deer were resting on a flat spot on the fenced-off steep embankment beside the Parkway and her friend's back porch.   At the time, there were six lanes plus an off-ramp lane full of speeding north and southbound vehicles roaring by.   The two deer appeared not to have a care in the world.   Later in the day, a fellow Delmanor resident  who had lived in a home perched atop a spot on the Don Valley for many years, said the Don Valley was always full of deer, including several bucks with 8  and 12-point antlers.   She felt this was true of all the river valleys in Toronto, from the north city limits down to Lake Ontario.
