Delmanor doorstopper...

There are many doorstoppers used by residents of Delmanor Retirement Residence in Aurora, but this one, in particular, caught my eye.   Delightful!

Reminiscing...

My partner Pat and I visited my old friend Ted Bird and his wife Lynn just outside Schomberg recently.   We enjoyed lunch and time in their beautiful flower garden ( see photos below).

Ted and I go back almost 70 years in King Township, when we were young teenagers starting at Aurora District High School, along with our two other best friends and neighbours Dan Buddin and Glenn McKinnon.

The four of us back them tramped all over King Township and the Oak Ridges Moraine, hiking on the King Ridge, fishing and building dams in the East Humber River, swimming in kettle lakes like Hackett Lake and bicycling all those gravel backroads and flying down big steep hills, like the descent on the paved King Sideroad, (two of us on one bike) into Kinghorn!

Those were the days!

Tiger Swallowtail

This species is the most widely distributed tiger swallowtail, and one of the most common and conspicuous butterflies in eastern North America.   They feed in groups with adults taking nectar from a wide range of flowers.

The Aurora branch of Royal Canadian formal rededication ceremony of the 100-year-old Aurora-King-Whitchurch war memorial, at the Aurora Peace Park, on the east side of Yonge Street in south Aurora, is to take place on Friday, October 3, at 5.30 p.m.   The cenotaph ceremony will feature a 12-piece street banner program facing the Yonge Street sidewalk.   The cenotaph commemorates those who lost their lives in the Second World War, the Korean War and the Afghanistan conflict.
The Aurora branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will lead the public ceremony and it will also host a community reception at the Legion at 104 Industrial Parkway North after the ceremony.

The exhibition at the Aurora Peace Park will explore how Aurora, King and Whitchurch/Stouffville memorialized those who made their ultimate sacrifice during the 1st World War.   The exhibition will feature artefacts from the three municipalities' collections and will tell the story of the memorial's creation and the Peace Park's legacy.
The visual story of the Cenotaph will continue to be told through street banners commemorating the names on the memorial, which will be displayed across Aurora, King and Whitchurch-Stouffville.
Visitors to the rededication ceremony are reminded of limited parking at the site and should arrive early to find parking spots at nearby commercial properties.

The autumn equinox is the moment the hours of daylight and darkness occur in perfect symmetry, creating a major moment of cosmic balance.   In 2025, it occurs today on September 22nd at 2.19 pm. in the northern hemisphere, signalling a time for the fall harvest, reflection and preparation for the months ahead.

Laskay Emporium - 180 years old

The historic Laskay Emporium, located at the Village of Black Creek in North York, was moved to Black Creek Pioneer Village in 1960, to save it from demolition and for restoration.   It was originally built in Laskay, on Weston Road in King Township in 1845.   It had been owned by the Arbuckle family.

As a teenager in the late 1950s, I visited the Laskay Emporium for a snak of cheddar cheese and Orange Crush, with my best buddy, Dan Buddin, who lived in Laskay, after our adventures along the nearby East Humber River.
