Monster culvert goes in on Bathurst Street

Bathurst widening's mammoth scope
Just when you think you've seen it all on the Bathurst Street widening, north of Miller's Sideroad, there's something new that underlines the massive scope of the road widening that begins at the Miller's Sideroad, heads north up over the King Ridge and then descends down into the Holland Marsh, at the Graham's Sideroad.   Once again Etienne Brule must be spinning in his grave as another trail up and over the Oak Ridges Moraine in King Township is turned into a 4-lane highway in King Township.

  1. What is the history of why this road dead ends while other major roads do not? I was surprised cycling years ago that this mighty road terminates the way it does.

    1. Actually, Bathurst Street was a through street many, many years ago. I remember having a 1961 Austen-Healey Sprite which I, like a few of my friends, would go hill-climbing. One of the locations we frequently chose was Bathurst Street North. The part that has been closed for many years was known as the 'Devil's Elbow'. It was very steep leading down into the Holland Marsh, was always terribly rutted and had many sharp, curving switchbacks. It eventually became totally impassable in the late sixties and maintenance was abandonned and the road closed.

  2. Your photography of the township is amazing. Even looking through the few pages I have seen to date (working backwards) I know I have to come there and photograph and explore. You are a great ambassador for the area.
