The historic Laskay Emporium, located at the Village of Black Creek in North York, was moved to Black Creek Pioneer Village in 1960, to save it from demolition and for restoration. It was originally built in Laskay, on Weston Road in King Township in 1845. It had been owned by the Arbuckle family.
As a teenager in the late 1950s, I visited the Laskay Emporium for a snak of cheddar cheese and Orange Crush, with my best buddy, Dan Buddin, who lived in Laskay, after our adventures along the nearby East Humber River.

Russel Arbuckle and I used to play hockey on the Humber River in Laskay and in later years on Maxwell Bruce’s pond . The store was also owned by Charlie Black before the Arbuckles.
ReplyDeleteNice historical pictures.
ReplyDeleteLaskay has been neglected by the Township for many years. By the end of the 1960s the store, church, school and playing fields closed. 50 years have gone by and there are still no sidewalks or paved shoulders. Apparently the Township does not want to plow the snow.
