Seneca College ~ King Campus

PRO DIVE 1 ... in dry dock
The good ship Pro Dive 1 has been retired from the underwater diving program at King's Seneca College for quite some time, but its end has finally come.   It will be removed from Seneca and scrapped in two weeks.   The diving program carries on however with the good ship Cato II (pictured below)   The 62-year-old CATO II, with a steel catamaran hull, has been totally refitted for the purposes of the Seneca diving program after a colourful past in many previous looks and functions.

  1. Does anyone know how deep the lake is that they practice in?

  4. Hi Barry,

Wow, it was fantastic to finally find out today what happened to the Pro Dive 1! The last I heard she was a dive boat at St. John's. I don't know if you are aware but this boat started life as a lifeboat for the Canadian Coast Guards, saving lives at Burgeo between 1973 and 2001.

My interest in this boat is through my website at www.44mlb.com which is dedicated to this class of lifeboat worldwide.

I wondered if you could help me with a few facts about the Pro Dive 1, so that I can update my website? Do you have any idea when she arrived at Seneca and was she scrapped as intended in September 2017? Also would you allow me to use your photo of her in the ex lifeboat section of my website and a Google map I have made show the present locations of the boats (in this case it will be her last location)? I will of course credit you for the photo and if you so wish, I can set up a link to this article through the credit?

I have spent a lot of time looking through your amazing Blog. It's been fascinating sitting here in Norway and getting to know a place on the other side of the planet! Its crazy how much you have going on there!

    Hope you can help ;-)

    1. Hi Clive. You would be best contacting someone at Seneca regarding the fate of Pro Dive One. As far as using my picture of the boat, you are quite welcome to use it.
      Best wishes, Barry
